Your First Month in Sydney: A Working Routine That Actually Sticks

Talk to anyone who moved here and they'll tell you the same thing: the habits you set in the first month are the ones you keep. Arrive without a work routine and three months later you're still working from bed, wondering where the days go. We've watched enough new arrivals join our spaces to see the pattern - here's what the ones who land well actually do.

Week one: separate work from where you sleep

Before the boxes are even unpacked, decide where work happens - and make it not your bedroom. It doesn't need to be perfect. It needs to be somewhere else, with a routine attached: same time out the door, same place, most days. The commute can be five minutes; the point is that it exists.

    Week two: fix the setup

A laptop on its own is a neck injury with a deadline. Whatever workspace you choose, get a proper screen and a real chair in front of you. (Every desk at our spaces has a 27" monitor and an ergonomic chair precisely because nobody ships theirs across an ocean.)

Week three: put shape on the week

Without an office's rhythm, the week goes shapeless fast. Pick your anchors: which days are desk days, which mornings are for deep work, when you stop. If you're working a European or American timezone, shift early rather than late - a 6am start at a desk beats a 10pm call from the couch, and the early shift gives you the afternoon at the beach you moved here for.

Week four: make it financially boring

Whatever routine survived the first three weeks, lock it in at the cheapest sustainable price. Coming in most days? Monthly membership ($429, about $19.50 a working day, first two weeks free) beats any casual arrangement from about ten visits a month. Two or three days a week? A 5-visit pack ($225, valid six months) with zero commitment. Both are month-to-month or pay-as-you-go - nothing to sign that outlasts your visa plans.

The couch will always be there. So will the beach - and the whole point of a routine that finishes at 3pm is that you get both. Start here.

No lock-in. Just a desk, a monitor, and some peace and quiet.
