No Study in Your Rental? Where to Actually Work Near Manly

Manly rents some of the most beautiful, least work-friendly housing in Sydney. Apartments and share houses here were designed for a life spent outside - which is wonderful right up until Monday morning, when you're on a video call at the kitchen bench and a flatmate starts the blender.

    The usual options, honestly assessed

The kitchen table is free, and worth what you pay. No second screen, no work-home boundary, and every distraction in the house within arm's reach. Most people lose an hour or two a day to it without noticing.

Cafes are a lovely place to answer emails for 45 minutes. They are a terrible place to take a client call, and a $6-coffee-per-hour desk rental adds up faster than it looks. There's also the daily lottery of finding a table near a power point.

The bedroom desk works until you realise you've spent three months working, sleeping and existing in one room. Everyone who's done it knows.

The third option: a real desk, 15 minutes away

Our Forestville space is about 15 minutes from Manly, and Brookvale is even closer to the northern end - with a 27" monitor at every desk, dividers between workstations, fast WiFi, and free parking at the door. No circling the block, no minimum spend, no blender.

It works out to about $19.50 a working day on monthly membership - roughly what three coffees cost in Manly - and it's month to month, so it fits a lease-hopping, still-figuring-it-out year. Not sure how often you'd come? The 5-visit pack ($225) lasts six months.

Your rental is for living in. Get the desk somewhere else - the first two weeks are free.
